Polynucleotides
What are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides (often abbreviated as PN or PDRN—polydeoxyribonucleotide) are biocompatible, injectable molecules made from highly purified DNA fragments (usually sourced from salmon or trout sperm/gonads). These fragments are processed to be safe, free from proteins that could cause reactions, and compatible with human tissue. When injected into the skin, they act as bio-stimulators: they promote cellular repair, boost fibroblast activity (increasing collagen and elastin production), improve hydration, reduce inflammation, and enhance skin regeneration. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers (which add volume) or basic skin boosters (which mainly hydrate), polynucleotides focus on deep tissue repair and long-term skin health.
Common Examples of ProductsPopular polynucleotide brands and formulations include:
- Plinest (Mastelli, Italy): Often combined with HA in variants like Newest; excellent for hydration, elasticity, and structural support—great for fine lines, tone, and overall rejuvenation.
- Nucleofill : High-concentration PN for deep revitalization, hydration, elasticity, and antioxidant protection; ideal for tired, aging, or sun-damaged skin.
- Vitaran (Fox Pharma exclusive): Purified trout DNA fragments; widely regarded for improving tone, texture, and appearance with strong bio-revitalizing effects.
- Rejuran (often Rejuran Healer): Salmon-derived PDRN; renowned for cellular repair, calming inflammation, and treating scars, acne, or sensitive skin.
- PhilArt / Pluryal Silk / Ameela : Focused on reducing inflammation (e.g., rosacea), hydration, and regeneration; some variants suit delicate or reactive skin.
Your practitioner will select the best product based on your skin concerns (e.g., Plinest for elasticity, Nucleofill for firmness, Rejuran for repair).
Benefits
- Repairs and regenerates skin at a cellular level for improved texture, tone, and resilience.
- Boosts collagen/elastin production to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.
- Enhances hydration, elasticity, and firmness for a plumper, more youthful appearance.
- Reduces inflammation, redness (e.g., rosacea), and post-acne marks/scarring.
- Provides antioxidant protection and supports healing from sun damage or environmental stress.
- Offers natural, gradual results—ideal for preventive anti-aging, under-eyes, neck, or scars.
What to Expect
- Consultation to assess skin type, concerns, and choose the right polynucleotide/product/protocol.
- Procedure: Multiple micro-injections (needle or cannula) into targeted areas (face, neck, under-eyes, etc.); 20–45 minutes. Numbing cream often used.
- Protocol: Typically 2–4 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart; maintenance every 6–12 months.
- Mild prick sensation; immediate subtle hydration/plumpness.
- Full results build gradually over 4–12 weeks as regeneration occurs.
- Minimal downtime—redness/swelling/small bumps usually resolve in 24–72 hours.
Potential Side Effects & RisksCommon (temporary, resolve in 1–7 days): Mild redness, swelling, small bumps at injection sites, tenderness, bruising, or pinpoint bleeding. Rare: Prolonged irritation, itching, asymmetry, or infection (uncommon with proper hygiene). Very rare: Allergic reaction (minimal risk due to high purification). Serious complications extremely rare; treatments are biocompatible and well-tolerated.
Aftercare
- For 24–48 hours (or up to 72 hours if advised): Avoid makeup, strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas/hot showers, direct sun exposure, touching/rubbing/massaging treated areas, and extreme temperatures.
- No lying flat or pressure on face for 4–6 hours post-treatment.
- Use cool compresses (wrapped) for swelling/comfort; apply gentle moisturizer and broad-spectrum SPF 50+ (mineral preferred) daily—sun protection is essential.
- Stay hydrated; avoid harsh actives (e.g., retinol, acids) for 48–72 hours or as advised.
- Gentle cleansing; report persistent symptoms (e.g., excessive swelling) promptly.
Important Notes
- Best for skin repair, texture improvement, and regeneration—not for deep volume addition (combine with fillers or Profhilo Structura if needed).
- Safe for most skin types, including sensitive/reactive; often combined with LED light, polynucleotides boosters, or Verdilab facials for enhanced results.
- Not suitable if pregnant/breastfeeding, active infections, certain allergies, or hypersensitivity—full medical history required.
- Choose reputable, CE-marked brands from qualified practitioners for safety and efficacy.
